Our operating principle in Franchise Development is this: “If You
Fail To Plan, You Are Planning To Fail”.
Working with Asiawide means that you get the entire spectrum of
our Franchise Development capabilities at your disposal. We don’t
do anything unless it revolves around making your franchise
business sharper, smarter and simpler.
These are the key components of our framework:
1. Conceptualizing The System
According to research done in the US by Timothy Bates, a Wayne
State University Economist, only 62% of franchised businesses had
survived after 4 years, while 68% of independent small businesses
were still open for business.* And independent businesses were
far more profitable. Profitability was actually negative, on average,
for franchised firms over the four-year period.
In our experience, many franchises fail because they started on the
wrong footing with the wrong system. Our responsibility is to
ensure that you go through a thorough brainstorming and
soul-searching exercise (to strategize for the long-term, to enhance
strengths and minimize weaknesses) before we crystalize the
franchise concept with you.
2. Building The Infrastructure
A building with a bad foundation will not withstand tremors well. It
will eventually crack and collapse. Our responsibility is to make
sure you have the proper infrastructure in a place so that your
franchise can take on the responsibility of providing reliable support
services both to your corporate outlets and the franchisees’ outlets,
locally and internationally, for the long term.
Going into business with great enthusiasm is not enough. Realistic
projections based on strict criteria must be adhered to so everyone
involved will know what resources are needed before they commit
to the relationship. The figures must be well-researched. Our real
experience in managing franchises before becoming franchise
strategists has been and will continue to be valuable in this respect.
4. The Operational Feasibility
The franchisee must be guided in such a manner that the entire
network functions in a unified, consistent, re-enforcing manner,
achieving the results envisioned during the planning stage. A thick
and colourful manual may not necessarily mean it is useful to the
5. The Legal Agreements
We work with well-established law firms to ensure that your
concerns and needs are considered properly without making the
terms and conditions unnecessarily onerous on the franchisees.
We can help your market your franchise effectively through:
- A worldwide network with partners in more than 60 countries.
- Marketing communications resources such as Asia Franchise &
Business Opportunities magazine; the company’s Facebook,
Twitter, LinkedIn pages; exhibition booths at many
franchise-related exhibitions in Asia and beyond every year; a
strong database of prospective franchisees; etc.
- The laser-focused commitment to help you find the franchisees
you have profiled.
7. The Franchise Audits
Because things move at such a fast speed, and the competition is
getting fiercer, established franchisors will find it useful to have a
‘Health Check’ once every few years. We will objectively analyze
your existing operations and propose improvements so that you
grow from strength to strength.
Not every well-known concept will become successful in every
market. A proper analysis will save the franchisor and the
franchisee lots of time, money and energy in case the chances of
success in the market in question are extremely low. Conversely, a
not-so-well-known franchise may fly high in another market
because of other incredibly positive factors. Our in-depth feasibility
studies will increase your chances of success in new markets.
9. The Project Management
We have a team of experienced consultants with real franchise
management experience who can help the franchisor and/or
franchisee to set up the business and to run the business on a
day-to-day basis on a short-term contract basis. This can include
piece-meal jobs like the updating of the Operations Manuals, the
launch of a new product or service, etc.
10. The Other Services
We can act as the franchisor’s representative in several areas:
- Enforcing terms stated in the franchise agreement concerning
termination of a franchisee based in Asia.
- Carrying out other tasks after reaching an agreement with the
franchisor on the scope of work and the consideration thereof.
